About me

Instructional design, made deliberately.

I’m Kyle Matthews — a bilingual instructional designer and curriculum strategist with fifteen years turning complex subject matter into learning that changes what people do.

I design learning experiences that work across languages, learner populations, and delivery formats. My background blends rigorous academic training, applied language-acquisition research, hands-on eLearning development, and project coordination across complex, multi-stakeholder environments — a researcher’s discipline for the problem, and a practitioner’s instinct for what learners actually need.

For L&D teams, that means translating dense subject matter into scalable, accessible training that drives measurable behavior change. I design for adult learners from the first stakeholder conversation to the final deliverable, working within real organizational constraints — timelines, budgets, and shifting priorities — instead of around them.

I design, write, and edit in both English and Spanish without translation overhead: near-native Spanish (ACTFL Superior) alongside a native English editorial voice. For organizations serving Spanish-speaking employees, customers, or learners, that’s one designer — not a design-and-translation handoff.

I manage the full design cycle — needs analysis, scope, development, iteration, and evaluation — building in Articulate Rise and Storyline, with supporting work in Figma, Canva, and Gamma.ai grounded in UX and visual-design foundations. A Ph.D. and fifteen years of applied curriculum work mean I can read the research, extract what’s actionable, and operationalize it without academic padding.

Two habits sharpen everything I ship. Editorial precision, from freelance copy-editing for Cambridge University Press and other publishers, so clean, appropriately voiced writing is part of the design rather than an afterthought. And a deliberate, critical AI-assisted workflow that speeds production and stress-tests design decisions without overclaiming what the tools do.
